Just a day after celebrating her 32nd birthday, television actress and Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner Sana Makbul has opened up about a deeply personal and alarming health update — her diagnosis with liver cirrhosis. The news has come as a shock to fans, especially after a recent hospitalisation that had already raised concerns about her well-being.
Autoimmune Hepatitis Worsens, Leads to Liver Cirrhosis
Sana revealed that she has been silently battling autoimmune hepatitis for quite some time, but recently her condition took a severe turn. Speaking with Hindustan Times, she explained, “My immune system started attacking my liver more aggressively, and I’ve now been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis.” She further added that she and her doctors are doing everything they can to avoid a liver transplant, which remains a last resort.
To fight the disease, Sana has begun undergoing intense immunotherapy, which she described as both physically and emotionally exhausting. “Some days are harder than others, but I’m holding on to hope,” she said. The actress emphasized that she is not ready to give up easily, saying, “Some days I cry, some days I laugh, but every day, I try.”
An Emotional and Physical Struggle For Sana Makbul
While she maintains a brave front, Sana did not shy away from admitting how emotionally and mentally draining the battle has been. “It’s hard emotionally, mentally, physically, especially when you’re the one who has to keep yourself going — financially and otherwise,” she shared. Despite the hardship, her fighting spirit remains unbroken: “Life is not the same anymore, but I want to live it fully. I’ll come out of this stronger — that I’m sure of.”
Sana also spoke about the support she has received from her family, who have been her strength through this ordeal. She acknowledged how difficult this journey has been for them as well.

The actress noted that the liver condition didn’t develop overnight. She had been managing it until recently, when her health began to deteriorate more rapidly. As a result, Sana has had to pause her work commitments, which she finds heartbreaking. “It breaks my heart a little, as I’ve worked really hard to achieve all this success, and now, just when things were falling into place, my health took a hit,” she said.
