One of the most eagerly awaited films of the year, Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, finally has a release date. The makers officially announced that the film will hit theatres on August 1, 2025. Stirring excitement among fans and film lovers alike.
Directed by Shazia Iqbal, Dhadak 2 promises a gritty. Emotionally charged tale that dives deep into the complex intersections of love, class, caste, and social hierarchy. It is a spiritual successor to the 2018 film Dhadak, which starred Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. And was itself a remake of the acclaimed Marathi film Sairat. However, Dhadak 2 carves a new path, serving as an official Hindi adaptation of the powerful Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal (2018).
First Look Posters of Dhadak 2 Create Buzz
To build anticipation, the filmmakers released two compelling posters on May 26. One features Siddhant Chaturvedi staring intensely as Triptii Dimri clutches him. While the other shows Dimri in tears, holding Siddhant close. Both posters carry the striking tagline: “Marne aur ladne mein se ek ko chunna ho to ladna,” which translates to “If given a choice between dying and fighting, choose to fight.”
CBFC Certification and Edits
Meanwhile, The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted Dhadak 2 a U/A 16+ rating. However, the film underwent several edits to align with certification guidelines. Notable changes include the rephrasing of a politically sensitive dialogue. From “3,000 years of backlog will not be cleared in just 70 years” to a more general version, “The backlog of age-old discrimination will not be cleared in just 70 years.”
Additionally, a five-second scene showing an actor urinating on Siddhant’s character, Nilesh, was removed. Caste-based slurs were muted and replaced with the word “junglee,” and a disturbing three-minute sequence involving the father of the lead character being humiliated was trimmed. A scene depicting violence against a woman was also edited to cut to a black screen.
A Story Rooted in Reality
Dhadak 2 isn’t just a love story—it’s a layered exploration of the social boundaries that often stand in the way of personal freedom and love. Siddhant Chaturvedi, best known for his urban-centric roles, shared that this film is a significant departure from his usual projects. Speaking about his connection to the film, he said, “This is a very rooted and strong film. Coming from a small town like Ballia in Uttar Pradesh, I felt deeply connected to the world we’re portraying here.”
Star Cast and Production of Dhadak 2
Joining Siddhant and Triptii in this intense drama are seasoned actors Ashutosh Rana, Kharaj Mukherjee, and Aditya Kumar. The film is a collaborative production between Zee Studios, Dharma Productions, and Cloud 9 Pictures.
Originally slated for a November 2024 release, the film’s premiere was pushed to August 2025. Possibly to accommodate post-production changes and certification procedures. With its powerful story and socially relevant themes. Dhadak 2 aims to strike a chord with audiences looking for cinema that’s both moving and meaningful.
As the countdown to its release begins, Dhadak 2 looks poised to be more than just a film—it promises to be a conversation starter.
