Television actor Priya Marathe, widely recognized for her role as Varsha in Pavitra Rishta, passed away on August 31 at the age of 38. She died at her residence in Mira Road, Mumbai, at 4 a.m. after a prolonged battle with cancer. Her husband, actor Shantanu Moghe—known for portraying Chhatrapati Shivaji in Swarajyarakshak Sambhaji—survives her.
Priya began her acting journey in 2005 with Ya Sukhano Ya on Zee Marathi. Shortly after, she joined Char Divas Sasuche, a landmark Marathi serial that ran for over 3,000 episodes. From 2006 to 2011, she played a pivotal role as the parallel female lead, sharing screen space with veteran actor Rohini Hattangadi.
In 2008, Priya made her film debut in Humne Jeena Seekh Liya, directed by Milind Ukey. The film was based on the Marathi novel Shaala and marked her entry into cinema. That same year, she stepped into Hindi television with Kasamh Se, portraying Vidya Bali in the Balaji Telefilms production.
Her most iconic role came in 2009 when she joined Pavitra Rishta on Zee TV. Playing Varsha, the sister of Archana (Ankita Lokhande), Priya became a household name. The show, also starring the late Sushant Singh Rajput, ran successfully for five years and became one of the longest-running Indian TV serials of its time.
Priya didn’t limit herself to dramatic roles. In 2010, she showcased her comedic talent on Comedy Circus Ke SuperStars. Her performances added a refreshing layer to her already diverse portfolio. Over the years, she appeared in several Hindi serials including Uttaran, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, and Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, where she played the antagonist Bhavani Rathod.
Even while making waves in Hindi television, Priya remained active in Marathi serials. She featured in Tu Tithe Me and Aata Hou De Dhingana, maintaining a strong connection with her regional audience.
Priya Marathe’s death has left a void in both the Marathi and Hindi television industries. Her journey—from debuting in regional serials to becoming a familiar face on national television—reflects her dedication and talent. Fans and colleagues alike remember her not just for her roles, but for the warmth and energy she brought to every performance.
