Alia Bhatt made her much-anticipated debut at the Cannes Film Festival this year, and she did it with unmatched elegance and flair. Once revered as the ultimate film destination, Cannes has now evolved into a global runway, and Alia ensured all eyes were on her as she embraced the spirit of high fashion.
Alia Bhatt Turned heads
For her first appearance at the festival, Alia turned to the avant-garde world of haute couture. With the expert guidance of stylist Rhea Kapoor, she selected a striking ensemble from the Spring/Summer 2025 couture collection of French fashion house Schiaparelli, helmed by creative director Daniel Roseberry. Titled ‘Icarus’, the collection is inspired by the mythological figure known for his daring flight — a perfect metaphor for the bold risks Roseberry takes in his craft.
Sculpted Elegance in Every Detail
Alia wore Look 11 from the collection — a breathtaking off-shoulder gown in ecru Chantilly lace. The form-fitting silhouette featured exquisite embroidery with organza and enamel flowers, while the voluminous ruffled train cascaded in layers of ivory mousseline, crepeline, organza, and tulle. The design’s ethereal quality captured both fantasy and refinement, making it one of the most memorable looks at Cannes this year.
In true Schiaparelli spirit, the gown stood out on its own. Alia kept her makeup minimal and her jewellery understated, allowing the couture creation to remain the focal point. Her look was a masterclass in restraint and sophistication — proof that sometimes, less truly is more.
Alia Bhatt’s Choice to wear
Daniel Roseberry, speaking about the Icarus collection in an earlier interview, described the design process as a form of “time travel,” where he explored the boundaries of fashion and history to create something timeless yet daring. Alia’s choice to wear a piece from this line was more than a red-carpet moment — it was an ode to imagination, risk, and artistic vision.
Alia’s appearance comes during the closing days of the festival, following a parade of Indian celebrities and influencers who made varied impressions on the red carpet in Cannes. Representing India as a brand ambassador for L’Oréal, Alia joined Cannes veteran Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in bringing a touch of Bollywood to the Riviera.
In embracing Roseberry’s risk-laden vision, Alia Bhatt didn’t just wear a gown — she made a statement. And without a doubt, that bold choice paid off.
